Job Purpose:
Working alongside the production manager to:
• oversee department H&S and quality needs,
• maintain a clean & tidy working environment – using the 5s philosophy,
• develop & maintain individuals’ training and skill requirements,
• lead teams and direct focus towards goals for achieving production deliverables,
• be a strong communicator and team motivator,
• being an ambassador/voice of the mechanical fitting team,
• demonstrate strong engineering, mechanical skills to assist with manufacturing/production problems,
• Participates in working activities & solves working problems,
• focus on continuous improvements by creating efficiencies, implementing & completing projects,
• Covering areas/tasks in the absence of the production manager.
Job Summary:
Supervising daily work activities, maintaining a safe working environment, supporting the production manager.
Key Responsibilities:
• Department H&S – work area checks at end of working day – promoting good housekeeping.
• Overseeing machine build progress.
• Achieving production deliverables ready for electrical fitting and FAT’s.
• Communicating, leading & motivating the team.
• Act as an educator, communicates expectations – processes, procedures, quality standards & mentoring individuals, e.g. apprentices, new starters.
• Encouraging collaboration & teamwork.
• Setting high quality expectations & upskilling others.
• Reviewing shelf-life of adhesives, checking stock levels of consumables – requesting purchase.
• Works strategically with production manager, updating on successes, issues, concerns & opportunities – verbally or by written report.
• Achieving machine delivery dates
• Achieving budgeted hours
• Reducing internal quality errors resulting in re-work or scrap
- Ideally Apprenticeship trained, City & Guilds, ONC, trade qualification. CSE, GCSE, NVQ in English Math, other.
- CMI level 2 team leadership diploma is supervision or other supervisor training courses.
- Skills Knowledge Experience Mechanical Instrument / Special machine building and fitting.
- Understanding and working to technical drawings, using measuring instruments & following SOP’s.
- Bench craft skills – marking drilling cutting, threading, forming & using various hand tools.
- Minimum of 5-year’s experience, in a mechanical manufacturing environment.
- Computer literate and competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and ERP/MRP systems
- Basic / general Manual machining – turning & milling etc.
- Electro-mechanical experience
- Forklift counterbalance licence preferred
Good communicator, friendly & approachable disposition, a “go-to” person. Logical and methodical approach, calm and task & team focused.
Can work under pressure, enjoys challenges and goes the extra mile.
