CNC Miller Programmer Setter Operator

Our client, an internationally recognised and pioneering leader in their field, is looking for a CNC Miller Programmer/Setter/Operator to join their base not far from Epsom. Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the CNC Miller Programmer/Setter/Operator will be responsible for the full cycle of programming, setting and running the 3 to 5 axis CNC Milling machines. Approving programme with Cimco, this role also entails supporting R&D with prototyping and development.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- These will include the following listed below and other duties may be assigned depending on the needs of the business:
- CNC Programming: Using Alphacam Cad Cam software to Develop and optimize CNC milling programs based on engineering drawings, CAD models, and other technical
- specifications. Proving out programs and 1st of inspection. Managing the CNC program data base using Cimco and approving or rejecting CNC programs returned from
- machines and maintaining accurate records of setup sheets and tooling information.
- Prototype Development: Collaborate with engineers and designers to understand prototype requirements and design intent. Interpret technical drawings, CAD models (using solid works), and specifications to determine machining operations. Design transfer to production.
- Machine Setup: Set up CNC milling machines (Fadal 3 axis with A&B axis, Dugard X5 320 5 Axis), including loading materials, fixtures, and tools, and calibrating machine settings to achieve precise results and monitor consumable levels and advise when stocks are low.
- Operation: Safely and efficiently operate CNC milling machines to manufacture small batch and prototype components, adhering to production schedules and quality requirements.
- Quality Control: Using inspection equipment, perform 1st off and in-process inspections to verify part conformity to engineering drawings and close tolerances, making necessary adjustments when required.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to CNC milling operations, tool wear, or machine malfunctions, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining production efficiency.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process improvement initiatives, design and manufacture fixtures, prototypes, suggesting ideas to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency in manufacturing operations.
- Maintenance: Keeping machines and workspace clean and tidy and undertake weekly maintenance checks and record on machinery maintenance check sheet.
- Document control: Maintain accurate records of programs (using Cimco software), setting sheets, fixtures, and tooling and Loading works orders based on production plan.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Capable of troubleshooting machining issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and effectively communicate technical information.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
- Strong Knowledge and ability of programming, setting, and operating CNC Milling machines.
- Knowledge and experience of programming with Licom Alpha cam or equivalent software package.
- Knowledge of Solid works or equivalent CAD software.
- Good communication skills with management and team members.
- Knowledge and experience of improving machining processes and dealing with tool suppliers.
- Final or in-line inspection experience.
- Knowledge and experience of 3 to 5 Axis CNC Milling machines.
- Able to interpret engineering drawings.
- Able to use a wide variety of measuring and inspection equipment.
Education and qualifications:
Essential: GCSE and Time served apprenticeship or equivalent vocational experience
