A chemistry opportunity with has arisen for a high-level graduate of chemistry with an interest and experience in formulation / organic chemistry. This is a great role for a chemist to tackle a range of technical challenges offering chances to grow and develop and learn about a key area of the business.

As R&D chemist you will provide laboratory and other technical support to the team, collaborating to develop formulations, deliver fundamental understanding and work with the technical team to assist with technical challenges.

You will:

  • Proactively contribute to the high safety standard of the group
  • Design, recommend and execute experimental programmes with guidance from supervisor
  • Co-ordinate and ensure completion of discrete work elements; arrange package and  blends, schedule analytical and performance tests, collate and analyse data
  • Participate in project / activity teams, present results and conclusions of the work as required
  • Interact with internal and external contacts as required to progress projects
  • Liaise with external service providers to ensure analytical and bench testing are delivered to a high-quality standard and against established timelines

  • Work with mixture of chemicals for testing, formulation, and related technology deployment activities.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Synthetic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related petroleum subject.
  • Commercial laboratory experience after graduating
  • Technical background – in any of these areas polymers, fuels, chemicals markets but can take from other industries pharma /materials etc.
  • Exposure to multiple laboratory test methods (standard and custom)
  • Excellent theoretical organic chemistry knowledge with a mindset for industrial solutions
  • Experience of sustainable and/or green chemistry in an industrial setting desirable
  • Strong safety focus HSE including a demonstrated ability to deliver high quality risk assessments.
  • Ability to take an objective view of technical problems and address them with creativity and innovation.
