Senior Design Engineer

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ownership and management of the design and integration of ship aviation systems within the major design zone that includes the flight deck, hangar and mission bay
  • Aviation platform equipment and systems, including but not limited to Aircraft handling system, AVCAT fuel system, visual landing aids, hangar crane, aviation equipment stowage
  • Management of Engineering changes to supporting systems and services and co-ordination of inputs across design zones and the maturity process
  • Liaising with external agencies (the customer, approval authorities & suppliers) to deliver BAE Systems Surface Ships outputs and the wider project milestones with budget and to schedule
  • Produce design and safety documentation (TESs, SOWs, DRGs) and supplier’s reports, CDRLS and DRGs
  • Support the Engineering Manager with leadership, task planning, delivery and resource management

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • Experience in previous Platform Engineering design roles
  • Experience with CAD & 3D modelling software and Engineering Lifecycle management
  • Strong understanding of Detail Design Requirements and Certification

Desirable

  • Previous ship/aviation design experience
  • Previous Engineering Management and leadership experience
  • Ideally degree qualified in Platform Engineering or related discipline

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered

The Engineering team:

As a part of the Engineering team, you will be responsible for the integration of platform equipment and systems within the ships hangar and mission bay. This will cover all aspects of the operational, functional and physical/engineering for the hangar and mission bay including, but not limited to: capital platform equipment and hangar maintenance and helicopter handling systems.
